How To Get Here:

Throbshaw point is located just outside Heysham Village and is a relatively easy mark to find, however, parking close by is limited and the mark itself is only suitable for a handful of anglers at a time.

A small carpark is situated to the rear of St Peter's Church in Heysham village, and Throbshaw point can be accessed via a small 10 minute walk from here.

The screenshot below shows you the fishing mark and how to access it from St Peter's Church carpark.

Throbshaw Point Fishing Mark

Once you have walked through some grassland following the above route, you will arrive on the beach, you then walk onto the rocks in front. DO NOT fish this mark on a tide above 8metres, if you do, the rocks will be covered and you will be completely cut off from the mainland.

This is a well known sea fishing mark by the locals, so we would recommend getting here early to secure a safe position on the highest points of the rocks.

When To Fish Throbshaw Point

Throbshaw Point is a high tide sea fishing mark that is recommended to fish 2 hours before and 2 hours after high tide.

However, it is IMPERATIVE that you do not attempt to fish this mark on any tide that is greater than 8metres, always ensure to check the tide times prior to arrival as anything higher than this will come over the rocks and put you directly into the water.

The above video was taken on an 8metre tide, and shows you how far the water comes up.

We found that bass frequently appear early into the incoming tide, while during the summer the smooth hounds were much more active on the ebb.

How To Fish Throbshaw Point

Throbshaw Point puts you very close to the channel, meaning huge casts are not needed here.

If you are targeting the bigger species here, such as smooth hounds, bass, and bull huss, we would recommend using a pulley pennel rig with a 2/0 or 3/0 hook.

The main baits here are fresh black lugworm, frozen whole squid, but prawn was the winner for us, landing the best hounds and bass.

Throbshaw Point is also a great sea fishing mark for plaice, if you are here to target place use a 2 hook flapper rig, with no bigger than size 1/0 hooks and baited up with fresh or frozen black lugworm.

Some Of Our Fish At Throbshaw Point
Our Verdict

The Big Fish Fishing have had a few day and night sessions at Throbshaw Point, and we all agree that this is an absolutely fantastic venue.

However, this is not a venue we would recommend fishing alone, or in bad weather, and definitely not on a tide higher than 8 metres.

It would be very easy to get cut off here and end up in trouble, even on the lower tides when the weather is rough it can cause the waves to crash up over the rocks.

Prior to attending to fish this mark at night, it is very advisable to visit during the day to get a feeling for your surroundings.

A great venue for the more experienced sea angler.

Stay safe, and tight lines! Don't forget, if you are looking to upgrade your tackle, we have all the sea fishing gear you could possible need!
